About Millican:

Based in the Lake District of the UK, Millican create sustainable bags using a combination of materials such as recycled polyester and organic cotton. Millican bags are crafted for everyday use or outdoor adventure and built to last.

Fair Pay and Good Working Conditions:

Milican have a strong, lasting relationship with their suppliers in Vietnam and they insure they work to their code of conduct – including fair wages and good working relationships. How do they ensure this? What are some of the principles of their code of conduct?

Sustainable / Organic Materials:

Millican’s Maverick Collection is made from Sonic Canvas which is 65% recycled polyester and 35% organic cotton. They are working on a collection with a new fabric which will be 100% recycled polyester.

They work with Bluesign approved fabric manufactures, including dye houses.

Sustainable Practices:

Working with Bluesign approved suppliers ensures that operational practices are sustainable and fair, for example their dye house re-uses waste water which is PFC free. Their sea-freight the majority of their orders.

Millican offer a free repair service for the general wear and tear of their goods.

Animal Welfare:

Millican’s current Maverick collection uses a leather trim although their new collection is vegan friendly.

Packaging:

Millican use recycled cardboard boxes in their packaging.

At present, their suppliers deliver their items in plastic covers to protect them in transit.  Millican recognise that this is not the most planet-friendly option and currently remove the cover before sending to the customer so that the onus is on their business to recycle the covers.  They are looking into alternative options that are more sustainable.

Social Responsibility:

Millican imagery features real people, with none or minimal retouching.

Charity / Community Contributions:

Millican run a Re:Home your bag project where they take a donation of unwanted bags, fix them up if needed and give them to those in need. They often donate bags to charities for raffles to help raise funds for good causes.
