About Treen:

Treen are an Edinburgh-based retailer of sustainable and vegan women’s fashion.  Treen stock modern and wearable collections from inspiring slow fashion brands that we love such as such as Nudie Jeans, Armed Angels, Kowtow, WORON and more. Treen also hold events and workshops to involve their like-minded community. Worldwide shipping available.

Fair Pay and Good Working Conditions:

As a multi-brand retailer, Treen stock a selection of good from brands made all over the world. Before they take on a brand, they check their manufacturing standards to ensure they are comfortable with the standards they uphold in terms of fair trade and labour. Many of their brands love sharing details of their factory visits and makers, Treen then share this with their audience.  Treen staff are all paid above a living wage, with plenty of incentives to be an active part of their growing team.

Sustainable / Organic Materials:

The brands they stock use a variety of innovative and traditional sustainable fabrics. More information on this can be found in the Glossary page on their site, with some stand out examples including organic and recycled cotton from By Signe, recycled plastic bottles from Girlfriend Collective and Embassy of Bricks and Logs, and organic cotton with recycled rubber, rivets and insole combos from footwear brand, Good News.

Sustainable Practices:

Sustainable practices are at the core of the brands they stock. Many including OhSevenDays use deadstock fabric as a solution to otherwise wasted materials, Armed Angels and Nudie Jeans make eco denim with significantly less water, Thinking Mu uses 70% less water and reduces the carbon footprint by 22% compared to conventional cotton, as well as recycling old stock into new in their ‘Trash’ range.

Animal Welfare:

Treen are proud to be a fully vegan retailer. All of their stock is vegan and cruelty-free without exception – and they encourage their customers to make small changes by seeing that there is an alternative out there to animal products. Many of their brands use innovative materials including Will’s Vegan Shoes, Bhava and Dauntless. All offer stereotypically leather crafted pieces in brand new fabrics from low chemical plastics, to vegan leather made from cereal crops grown in northern Europe to create a bio oil in a carbon neutral process.

Packaging:

Treen mailers are made from ecological cardboard with black overprint and a tightly shut handy closure meaning there’s no need to use additional adhesive tape (an essential feature in order to ensure they’re vegan friendly). Each box is made from 90% recycled content, printed with water-based ink and ready to be used again. Each order comes wrapped up in their version of a bow - a 100% organic cotton, ultra-soft drawstring bag. No waste, just high-quality cotton bags that can be reused time and time again. Plus, recycled cardboard brand cards. Many of their brands also take packaging seriously, reusing old boxes, cutting out the plastic wrap and layering card instead. Underprotection even uses fruit boxes to send them their recycled underwear in!

Social Responsibility:

It’s of upmost importance for Treen to inform their customers and give them the opportunity to choose. All of their marketing is inclusive without preaching. They believe that fundamentally, individuals want to make positive consumption choices, it’s just not always easy or accessible to do so.  This is why they have chosen to provide an all-vegan, all-ethical retail destination. They prioritise transparency, diversity, being real people behind their accounts, showing plenty of behind the scenes on social, and they offer no flash sales nor do they support Black Friday.

Charity / Community Contributions:

Treen place importance on the physical environment we exist within and the impact we have on our surrounding is as important as the brands they choose to work with. They hold inclusive, affordable events to engage and educate the community, with panel talks, ethical fashion get-togethers and workshops. Their aim is to help support shopping local and independent, strengthening high street, and shining a light on sustainable small businesses through their content.
